Who doesn’t want to win free stuff?

Here’s a quick round-up of some contests that are going on right now around the web. There’s something here for pet lovers, book lovers and snack food lovers, which pretty sum up my favorite topics:

Win a DogTread dog treadmill from PetZen. Just go to their DogTread Facebook page, and upload a picture of your dog. You also need to mention your dog’s name, breed and how you found out about the contest. The entry period runs from now until October 1st, and then from October 2nd through November 1st your entry (and all of the others) will be voted on by both friends and fans. The three entries with the most votes will win a DogTread for their pooch.

If you’ve always wanted to travel to Austin, Texas, here’s your chance. As part of their 10th Anniversary celebration, PR By the Book is giving away a trip to Austin, complete with hotel lodgings, gift certificates and VIP passes for the Texas Book Festival for the winner and a guest. The contest runs through August 31st; enter by going to their Facebook Fan Page.

G.H. Cretors, who make premium popcorn in flavors like cheese (my favorite!), caramel, caramel nut crunch are holding a Freebie Fridays contest from now through September 21st. Go to their Facebook Fan Page and click the “like” button to enter. One winner will be announced every Friday. The prize is a popcorn variety pack consisting of the following flavors: kettle corn, caramel, cheese, caramel nut crunch and Chicgo mix.

Vote for me?

Last week I entered a contest on Curbed.com entitled “Renter Horror Stories.” I told an abbreviated version of the apartment that I lived in from 2004 to 2008. Everything is true, just the timeline is switched a bit and I left out some of the more annoying details regarding a broken fridge, air conditioner and mysterious $300/month “gas bill” foisted upon me by the landlords to pay for “gas” in an apartment where both the stove/oven and heat were electric.

To make a really long story short, I’m in the running to win a month’s worth of rent on my current apartment (that I love.)

Who doesn’t love a contest?

Here are three cool contests that were brought to my attention recently:

1) Sure Fit’s Halloween Pet Costume Contest:

Until October, 24th 2011, visit Sure Fit on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/surefitslipcovers), “like” the page and then submit a photo via email to facebook@surefit.com.

Submissions must include a photo of your pet in a costume along with your name, address, phone number and pet’s name

Approved submissions will be posted in a photo album on the Sure Fit Facebook page. Through October 30th, Facebook fans can vote for their favorite entries by “liking” the photos. The photo with the most likes will win the “Halloween Pet Costume Contest”. Winner will be announced on Halloween, October 31, 2011. Only one photo submission per household.

Kittens, candles and contests

As much as I love candles (I even sold Partylite for about two years) I’m careful about using them around my many cats. The last thing I need is for a curious cat to burn itself by “checking out” the flame. I learned that lesson back when Loki was a kitten. I lit a few candles one evening and went into the kitchen. About ten minutes later, one of the candles was out and some of her forehead whiskers were melted! Thankfully they grew back, but she looked funny for a few months.

Then I discovered this cool product: Enjoy Lighting Flameless Candles! They have L.E.D. lights inside and flicker just like a real flame. They’re even scented! How cool is that? I can make my home smell better, have candles sitting out, and I won’t have to worry about my fuzzies. Since my kittens are virtually uncontrollable, as evidenced by this picture of Horus lounging on the kitchen counter, it’s a safe option. (And yes, I’ve tried the squirt-gun method of cat training. It doesn’t work on the kittens. They like water.)

Speaking of pets, several weeks ago I wrote about the KOA Picture PAW-fect Pet Contest. The voting is underway to choose a winner from among the ten finalists (I didn’t enter) so follow the link and pick your favorite! The winner gets $250 worth of pet products, and voting ends on March 16th.

Upcoming goodies and some updates

I’ll start off with the update: I finally got my car back! After two weeks in the shop, $400 in repairs, and a new serpentine belt, timing belt and water pump, she runs like new. Only now I think another one of my wheel bearings is going, but I’m not surprised. Three out of the four of them are original, so they’re ten years old and have 112,000 miles on them.

Now for the news: due to my newfound interest in football (BTW – my husband says “FINALLY”) I’m declaring next week to be Superbowl Week. I’m going to be posting party tips, football party cookbook reviews, and other related information almost every day, on top of my regular stuff.

Also, this is for those of you who love camping as much as I do. If you’re a camper who brings along your fuzzy friend, Kampground of America is holding a contest that you may be interested in. Here are the details from the press release:
